2024 Penguin Dip December 26

On a chilly Boxing Day, approximately 45 brave souls took the plunge into the icy waters of the Niagara River at Balls Beach. The annual Penguin Dip, despite a relatively mild temperature of 1 degree Celsius, saw participants displaying remarkable resilience as they plunged into the river three times.

Among the participants was Chris Bjorgan, a long-time dipper with decades of experience. Bjorgan shared words of wisdom with the crowd, offering encouragement and tips for navigating the icy waters.

The event was not just about the thrill of the icy plunge; it also served a worthy cause. The Boxing Day Dip raised funds for Red Roof Retreat, a local charity dedicated to providing quality respite and recreational programs to children, youth, and young adults with special needs and their families in the Niagara Region.

The Penguin Dip is a beloved community tradition that combines the spirit of adventure with a commitment to supporting a vital local charity.
